What are porcelain veneers?

Dental, or porcelain Veneers (sometimes known as porcelain teeth) are a thin layer of porcelain placed over a tooth to improve the aesthetics and function of a tooth. They will enhance the beautiful appearance of your smile whether you want to change a few teeth or want a complete Smile Makeover. Porcelain Veneers can be an ideal solution. Porcelain Veneers are shells of ceramic material which are chemically bonded to the tooth structure. When considering Veneers, the shape of your face, smile line and complexion are looked at to determine the final result.

Some dentists place dental veneers that consist of resin composite. However, the long term prognosis of porcelain is much better.

Porcelain Veneers Before and After:

What do porcelain veneers cost?

Here at Dental 359 we always recommend beginning with a consultation so that we may provide you with an accurate estimate of costs.
Once a consultation has taken place, Dr Golestani will have a better understanding of his patients concerns and how to achieve the end result they desire.

In your consultation, Dr. Golestani will prepare a comprehensive treatment plan and estimate costs.  This will differ for every patient as everyone’s needs are unique.

How long do veneers last?

International research suggests that the reasonable life expectancy of porcelain veneers should be 10-12 years on average. Technique sensitive and strict protocols and quality measures are required. Following such protocols takes time, expertise and artistic license.

This can only occur if you follow the advice given from your Dentist once treatment is complete:

  • Regular professional and home care maintenance is carried out
  • Gum health is assessed on a regular and ongoing basis (2 visits a year)
  • Your teeth are protected from the damage of night time grinding by wearing a splint
  • You are using your teeth for eating food only! Stay away from chewing ice or opening plastic bags

Porcelain Veneers can be implemented to correct the following conditions

  • Spaces between teeth
  • Slightly disproportionate Teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Worn Teeth
  • Teeth that are two small or two large
  • Poorly shaped teeth
  • Permanently stained teeth
  • Badly positioned teeth

Porcelain Veneers can create an aesthetic and well-proportioned smile. Unlike the process of Porcelain Crowns, Porcelain Veneers require very little reduction of the natural tooth. Bonded straight to the teeth’s existing structure, Porcelain Veneers use a relatively conservative technique.

Customised to match the colour of your natural teeth, Porcelain Veneers can aesthetically enhance a smile makeover. Porcelain Veneers have a high resistance to staining and therefore give a natural, realistic appearance for longer.Porcelain Veneers enable the front surface of your tooth to have a ‘face lift’. The popularity of Porcelain Veneers is constantly increasing, due to their natural appearance and strong supporting structure.

The porcelain veneer procedure at Dental 359

1. Consultation

The initial visit to our clinic will be a comprehensive consultation where you can discuss any concerns with Dr Golestani. You’ll discuss what you would like to achieve as an end result and what costs and options are available to you.

2. Hygienist and impressions of your teeth

Following this you will see our Hygienist to assess your gum health, perform a scale and clean and take impressions of your current teeth. This allows us to then create a treatment plan, tailored to your individual needs, along with an opportunity to review what your final result will look like with a wax mock-up from our lab.

Once satisfied and happy with the end result, the first of two procedural appointments will commence.

3. Preparing your teeth

The first appointment will include the preparation of the tooth, which involves shaping the tooth ever so slightly and an impression for our lab to manufacture the final veneer. A temporary provisional veneer will be placed to the prepared tooth.

4. Dental veneers final bonding!

Once the lab returns your veneers, generally within 10 days, the temporary veneers are removed and the permanent cemented to the teeth individually. Giving you the smile you’ve always dreamed of!
